OUR HERD

We love our animals, and to be fair to them all, we have put a picture of each on this web page. Some are for sale, some not, you have to look at our "For Sale" page to find out. If you come and visit, these are the creatures you will find.

Connie. One of our first group of four, and the first to give birth on our farm. She has a lovely smile, and although not the pushiest in the herd, she is always in the second row to see what is going on. Connie is also the oldest and as such has a special place in our hearts.

Angie. Our herd matriarch and a great mum. Like Connie, one of our first purchases, she has given us two great cria and we are sure, many more to come. She is the one who will call the herd to order if there is danger, such as a dog walking along the road. She is also the one who acts as midwife when one of the new mums is having trouble with her offspring, including helping to get the baby up and feeding.

Sunnydale Buffy. Our first born, and therefore of course named after "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer" of the famous cult tv series. Her mum is Connie and she was sired by Wirracochas Ayocca. She is really friendly, and will let us stroke her and pet her. She is very free with her kisses. She has a bright, crimpy fleece, fairly fine with good density. Any of her offspring will be of outstanding quality.

Sunnydale Willow. A half sister to Buffy, and our second born. Her mum is Angie and her sire, like Buffy is Wirracochas Ayocca. She has an outstanding fleece, fine, dense and with a comfort factor over 99%. She is fairly friendly, and even close too, is very difficult to tell from Buffy. She has had her first cria this summer, Sunnydale Xander, sired by "Benleigh Talisman of Clasical Mile End", who also sired Sunnydale Giles - so we know that Xander has a good chance of a career in the show ring and as a stud male.

Olivia. We love suri alpacas. We especially love fancy suri. When we got the chance to buy Olivia, we snapped her up. She has now produced a beautiful fancy suri baby, "Oz", sired by our own champion fancy suri male, Banjo. Wild when we firrst got her, Olivia is now very tame.

Sunnydale Cordelia. Connie's second cria during her time with us, a soft, dense, light brown fleece. Sired by multiple ribbon winner, "Little Legend", she is very friendly. Like her dad, she is quite small in stature, but perfectly in proportion.

Sunnydale Dawn. A full sister to Cordelia, but white, not brown. Strange thing, Alpaca Genetics. Fine, and very soft handling, we will have to see how she develops, but at the moment is full of promise.

Devon Fudge arrived here in 2007, and seemed quite nervous at first. She's still a bit reserved, but is much more settled now. She is a prize winner in her own right, and arrived already pregnant to "Benleigh Talisman of Classical Mile End". The result was Giles, who is a ribbon winner already at less than a year old. She is an excellent mum, and is now pregnant to "The Golden Gun."

Honeybunch is half accoyo, and an outstanding animal. She is quiet and reserved, but very much a part of the herd. Her first cria, born this summer is a unicorn white female, named Anya, sired by "The Golden Gun".

Carbine came to us in 2007 with her cria, Angelus, sired by Benjiro. She was also pregnant to Benjiro again, and has now produced "Valentine". She makes a great mum, she's easy to handle and takes very good care of her offspring. Her fleece is soft and dense, a very dark brown almost black, a most attractive colour.

Warrior Princess is suri, who arrived in 2007 with her female cria Harmony, at foot. She is a larger than life animal, keen to be at the front of everything. Her fleece is not wonderful, but she seems the sort of female who produces cria with the characteristics of a good sire. Her cria this year is the biggest ever born here, a light fawn suri male called "William".

Sunnydale Harmony. Arrived with her mum Princess in 2007, has a fabulous tight suri fleece. This summer will see her first mating, and we still have to decide if she will enter the fancy breeding programme, or if she should be put to an elite stud from elsewhere.

Banjo was the first Alpaca that Alison ever met, and the rest as they say is history. He is the only male we use for breeding at the moment, as we follow our heart along the fancy suri breeding programme. He has sired "Oz" who is very fancy and has been remated to Olivia. He will also be put to Princess and maybe Harmony when the time comes. Banjo is leader of our male herd, and really takes to role seriously. Banjo won First Prize in his class (Suri Fancy - Intermediate) at the Devon County Show in 2006.

Bartez. One of our first purchases, Bart is very friendly and inquisitive. He has classic alpaca looks, his fleece would be classed as strong rather than fine, and it is exceptionally dense. He would make a great pet in anybody's field, and is an experienced flock guardian.

Khan is a very friendly animal, he is an experienced flock guardian, and produces a fine, soft handling, blue-black fleece.

Sunnydale Spike. Spike was our little venture into flights of fancy. He is the son of Angie, sired by Inca Matador. He has all the classic suri looks, and is a very pretty addition to our field.

Sunnydale Adam. As a suri huaccaya cross, Adam is our second choice fancy stud, and will be used on any female offspring that come from Banjo's matings. He is a very inquisitive animal, and has a very gentle nature. Adam won first prize in his class (Suri Fancy - Junior) at the Devon County Show in 2006, and first prize as Adult Suri Fancy at the Cornwall Alpaca Show in 2008

Sunnydale Angelus arrived here as a cria at foot to Carbine in 2007. He is a son of Benjiro, and is showing the most glorious, dense, crimpy and soft handling fleece. His fleece can only be described as very very dark. He won first prize as a black at the Cornwall Alpaca Show 2008 and third prize as a dark brown at the Devon County Show a week later. He is definitely one to watch as a possible as a stud male for the future.

Sunnydale Giles was born here in 2007 and has the most wonderful fleece you could hope to see in one so young. It is a fantastic honey colour that turns to gold when wet. It is bright, dense and crimpy and really soft. Not surprising as both his parents, Fudge and Talisman are both prize winning animals. He took second prize as junior fawn male at the Cornwall Alpaca Show 2008, and a week later took second again at the Devon County Show. The judge, Nick Harrington-Smith, called Giles forward for special mention, describing his fleece as the brightest at the Devon County Show that day. Giles will almost certainly become a first class stud.

Sunnydale Oz is our first home bred fancy alpaca. With one brown leg, three white, a white head with patches on each eye, a blaze on his forehead and great body makings. Not surprising then that he won first prize Junior Suri Fancy at the Cornwall Alpaca Show 2008, and was then awarded best Suri fancy of any age.

What can you call an alpaca that is born on St. Valentines Day. Let me introduce Sunnydale Valentine. His mum is Carbine, and his sire, like brother Angelus, is The Alpaca Stud Benjiro, top champion from across the Atlantic. Valentine is only a few months old, but if he grows up to look like his brother, he will indeed be a handsome lad.

Since Valentine arived in February, we have had three cria born, all at the end May/early June. They are Sunnydale Xander, Sunnydale Anya and Sunnydale William, from Willow, Honeybunch and Warrior Princess respectively. We'll keep you up to date on how they develop, and on the other cria due soon.
